A marathon rain delay led to the scheduled doubleheader between the New York Mets and the visiting Miami Marlins being reduced to one game Wednesday.

The teams finally began play Wednesday at 9:45 p.m. EDT at Citi Field after they were due to open the doubleheader at 4:10 p.m. EDT.

What would have been the second game Wednesday night instead will be part of a Thursday doubleheader. The first game Thursday is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. EDT, and it will be followed by the nightcap after a 20-minute break.

The Mets and Marlins were rained out Monday in what would have been the opener of a four-game series.
